WINGS Seminar – Android Electronic Flight Bag
March 18, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
VFR Flight Planning
with Android-based EFBs
Learning and keeping up with the advances in mobile cockpit technology can be a daunting task. In this presentation we will examine how we can use Android-based tablets and phones as an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). We’ll start by examining the definition of an EFB, the FAA’s guidance on EFBs, and basic hardware requirements from an Android perspective. We’ll then move into what you might want to have on your EFB – books, apps, and settings. We will examine how to use moving map applications (focusing on Avare) for flight planning, weather, taxi diagrams, chart supplements (formerly A/FD), and in-flight navigation. We’ll also discuss how we can tie portable ADS-B receivers into the software to help understand real-time traffic and weather information. We’ll wrap up with a discussion of best practices for both IFR and VFR flight, followed by time for Q&A.
Featured speaker will be CFI, CFII and instrument ground school instructor for AeroDynamic Aviation, Eric Curtis.
WINGS seminars count towards your Flight Review. This seminar counts as 1 Credit for Basic Knowledge Topic 3.
